Sample Storage Tubes: How to Choose the Right Storage Tubes for Your Precious Samples?

Sample storage tubes have a wide range of uses. They can be directly centrifuged or used as transport/storage tubes for the transportation and storage of reagents such as oligonucleotides, proteases or buffers.

How to classify?
1️⃣ By volume: 0.5ml/1.5ml/2ml
2️⃣ Based on the tube bottom structure: Cone bottom storage tube/Vertical bottom storage tube
3️⃣ According to the depth of the tube cover: Deep cover storage tube/Shallow cover storage tube

How to choose?
✅ Sealing
This is the most basic quality requirement for the storage tube. The sealing is mainly ensured by precise threads and O-rings. The commonly used detection methods are negative pressure sealing test and evaporation weight loss;
✅ Dissolution and precipitation
This is mainly related to the materials of the reagents and tubes. First of all, you need to choose a storage tube made of medical-grade polypropylene raw materials. At the same time, you need to do dissolution and precipitation tests to verify the impact of the storage tube material on the functionality and stability of the reagents;
✅ Biological cleanliness
Biological cleanliness usually refers to whether the tube contains nucleases, DNA, PCR inhibitors, microorganisms, heat sources, sterility and other indicators. This can be done by selecting storage tubes with different clean quality levels according to the requirements and uses of the stored reagents;
✅ Adsorption
Choosing storage tubes with low DNA (RNA) or protein adsorption can ensure that the sample loss rate is minimized;
✅ Gas and bacterial barrier properties
Since the storage and transportation environment of reagents is generally extreme (low temperature, dry ice, liquid nitrogen, etc.), the gas barrier and bacterial barrier properties under these conditions must be considered to ensure that the reagents are not affected.
